Why are you talking about Mayweather fighting in the WEC? It seems pretty clear from the article that if Mayweather ever did fight in MMA (doubtful) it would be in HDnetfights against a scrub in order to attract interest to his fledgling promotion.

Mayweather is too old to compete at MMA Featherweight. There just isn’t enough time for him to learn the grappling skills to compete with guys like Urijah Faber.

Something tells me if he makes the move, it will be against guys tailer made for him.

But what a blow to boxing it would be is a non-Top 10 Featherweight knocks him out with one punch or a leg kick. It would be the last straw for boxing.

Zuffa having a Featherweight Division in the WEC (and not UFC) really helps them out here. They obviously will never co-promote with anybody else for a UFC event. However, they have the #1 Featherweight in the world, and he fights for the WEC. They really aren’t risking much by having a WEC Champion fighting Mayweather if that ever came up. If Faber got KO’d (which I doubt), then it hurts their secondary brand. If Faber wins, it will bring huge amounts of credibility to the WEC. So I could see Zuffa trying to make this fight.

Funny stuff. It IS guaranteed to generate publicity, but it’s really silly. Mayweather is about as likely to fight a legitimate MMA fight as Mark Cuban is.
