Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is UFC bound

By Jeff Comstock

MMAMovement.com has discovered that submission grappling phenom Ronaldo Souza has signed a contract with the UFC.

A post made on the Portal do Vale Tudo forums claims that Jacare’s manager and Amazon Challenge promoter Andre Cabral made the announcement during yesterday’s Amazon Challenge event. The announcement was apparently big enough to make the rounds on Brazilian television news.

Ronaldo Souza boasts a BJJ world championship and placed second in the ADCC absolute division in 2005. His MMA record currently stands at 6-1, with all of his victories coming by way of submission. Jacare will certainly add needed depth and star power to the UFC’s middleweight division.

  1. […] Submission League grappling match last year, taking ?The Natural? to a scoreless draw. (Thanks to FightOpinion.com for the assist.) __________________ Did you like this post, let me know by clicking […]

  2. Wow, first Maia gets signed and now Jacare, this is awesome. I just wonder how well Jacare’s skills will translate in the cage.

  3. ColumbiaLou says:

Could any of the contestants of the Ultimate Fighter show sue Spike TV or Zuffa concerning Matt’s religious activities. Matt is in a position of power on the show. If any of the contestants told Matt to stop promoting his religion, they might fear it could damage their career.

What does the law say about this? Anybody know?

“What does the law say about this? Anybody know?”

It says to get over it.

  5. ilostmydog says:

How can one get over watching someone on TV being given free time to read the Bible and pray? It’s a life scarring thing. I’ll never be the same.

  6. CapnHulk says:

“So, instead of just having the house and the gym, I wanted to give them another place where they could just let their mind be free and do other things they wouldn’t get to do otherwise. And the Bible was the only book that “production” would allow me to give them.”

  7. David says:

He didn’t promote his religion, he offered self-enlightenment. I don’t condone his actions but you need to not play SuperMan. JACARE I LOVE THAT DUDE

  8. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

I know nothing about this Jacare.

Is he big enough for UFC’s middleweight division (i.e. does he need to cut to get there)? Clearly, UFC needs more guys there, but it’s pointless signing people in if they’re just going to drop down.

  9. cyphron says:

Souza is 6’0 so he’s not a small middleweight by any means. Two of his submissions was from ground and pound, so he’s not a jujitsu only fighter.
