  1. Jordan Breen says:

The Cage Wars show was…something. Entertaining, but mostly not in a good way.

  2. Ivan Trembow says:

Nice to see history being rewritten in the Ithaca Journal article. First of all, it says, “[Marc] Ratner joined the UFC in 2000, and shortly thereafter, the unified rules were formulated.”

It also says, “Ratner also explained that UFC is careful with its image. For example, when two fighters on the Spike TV show challenged each other to a backyard rumble, the UFC kicked them off the show and declined offers from the network to televise a fight between the two. “Spike wanted to put them on the air and we said absolutely not,” Ratner said. “We said we wouldn’t reward thuggish behavior.””

In fact, Spike TV requested the fight, Zuffa agreed to the fight, which was then booked and officially announced. A week later, after numerous editorials in outlets such as the Houston Chronicle criticizing the UFC’s decision to reward street-fighting, UFC president Dana White publicly claimed that he had never heard of the fight and that it was being cancelled. Then just a few weeks ago in an ESPN interview, White said that the UFC had agreed to the fight but later changed its mind. And now it looks like the version of events that will go down in history, or at least UFC management’s version of history, is “Spike wanted to put them on the air and we said absolutely not. We said we wouldn’t reward thuggish behavior.”

I suppose they removed the beer and hard liquor from the house when they filmed TUF 6, right? …

  3. 45 Huddle says:

Carlos Condit’s body looked much more ripped during the weigh-ins. I don’t think it is steroids, because he is still a skinny guy. He just really toned his body up more.

  4. Rollo the Cat says:

“The Cage Wars show was…something. Entertaining, but mostly not in a good way.”

    Details, please.

  5. Jordan Breen says:

    “Details, please.”

For all the great things he does for Euro MMA, Martijn de Jong was painful on commentary. The overall production value was terrible. The fights for the most part were hilarious because the guys were so technically unskilled in some areas, you saw some exciting action that you couldn’t possibly see between two well-groomed fighters.

  6. Zack says:

K-1 on live now. Aerts comes through with a pretty brutal headkick after looking semi-winded.

  7. The Gaijiin says:

“Carlos Condit’s body looked much more ripped during the weigh-ins. I don’t think it is steroids, because he is still a skinny guy. He just really toned his body up more.”

I’m not even going to make fun of you for this….that’s just waaaaay to homoerotic.
