If Shaolin beats JZ he might be ranked up there with Sherk? Sherk hasn’t beaten a top 10 LW yet.

Potentially he could be top 3, but until he beats top dudes, you can’t put him there yet. Shaolin has been ridiculously consistent for years. He’s also 1-1 with Kawajiri…his only blemish.

Uhhh…he subbed Hansen, who’s pretty highly regarded. And if you actually WATCH his fights you know you’re making some pretty ignorant comments. He doesn’t just beat guys he BLOWS through them and puts on absolute clinics.

Nothing is certain in the Lightweight Division.

And I do think Ribeiro is only a maybe in the Lightweight Top 10.

Since defeating Ishida almost 3 years ago, what exactly has he done? He has lost to Kawajiri, and he hasn’t beaten one Top 10 level fighter at Lightweight. In fact, not one of them is probably Top 20.

The sport has changed so much in 3 years, that a fighter who doesn’t have 1 Top 20 win in three years could easily be excluded from a Top 10. You can only hold onto those past wins (Ishida, Hansen, & Menjivar) for so long.

But my point really won’t matter soon. If he and JZ fight, those are two top tier Lightweights competing against each other. The winner should surely put his name at least in the mix for being one of the top of the weight class. Along with Gomi, Sherk, Penn (if he stays), Melendez, and perhaps one or two others.

A lot of people have Ribeiro in their Top 10. He is a hard fighter to rank. The winner of this tournament is without question Top 10, and perhaps borderline Top 5. The Lightweight Division is so wide upon right now. Just look at the UFC, it is 25 fighters deep. Hopefully within the next year or so we will have more order to the weight class and an established #1 fighter. I could easily see 5 different fighters making that claim right now.
