MMA Internet shooters

By Zach Arnold | June 1, 2007

Update: Ron at Concepts Marketing is encountering some ‘typical’ online MMA fans. A friendly warning to Ron that there is brazen hostility and inane screaming from idiots on the bigger MMA sites. Trust me. It pays to get a real thick skin if you want to peruse through some of the more popular MMA-related sites online. It’s unfortunate, but in many ways the MMA fans online act like professional wrestling fans do.

If you have been following YouTube or other online video web sites, you have seen a barrage of ‘Internet shooters’ discussing the aftermath of the UFC 71 event. It’s some of the wildest, strangest, and most fanatical behavior on display. A lot of it is centered around some fans who are angry that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is now the face of the UFC in the 205-pound division.

Fear not, ladies and gentlemen, as we have found an Internet Shooter who is ready to stand up and defend the honor of UFC against the dispicable WWE-style character that is Rampage. This is truly redefining family honor at its finest.

First, the Internet Shooter’s war declaration on Rampage:

Today, I am sending an email to Rampage notifying him that I don’t like his WWE style and that I think he is a punk. Also, I will be challenging him to a fight. I’m willing to give up 50 lbs. in weight to Rampage (he currently fights at 205 lbs. and I weigh in at 155 lbs.) and I will let him choose the place. I will post my correspondence to Rampage tomorrow. Stay Tuned!

The Internet Shooter showed his manhood and issued the direct challenge:

I’m not happy that you beat Chuck, but most of all, I don’t want to see the UFC turn out to be like the WWE; and I hope you don’t either.

It is for this reason that I would like to challenge you to a fight. You can choose the time and place (even make it a publicity event if you would like). I’m a 28 year old, 5’10” and 155 lbs. insurance agent from Indiana and it would be safe to call me your typical UFC fan.

This is your opportunity to appeal to the UFC masses and show them that you’re not just a trash talker who wants to make the UFC a big act (just like the WWE). If you can change my mind about you, then I think you could change anyone’s.
It’s my hope that we can settle this like gentlemen…. in the octagon.

Sincerely,

Daniel I. Pigg

Daniel I. Pigg, stepping up to the plate in honor of all the Internet Shooters around the world. It’s about time we stop these MMA monsters from destroying the core values of our society. We salute you for defending the honor of keyboard warriors all across the globe.

OMG!!! I’ve seen people give a lot to show that they are a fan of their favorite sports star but this guy has taken it way too far. How is putting yourself in the cage with a MMA fighter gonna solve anything, besides the fact that your a freaking retard for even trying to involve yourself in a beat down. Chuck lost…GET OVER IT!!!

P.S. If Rampage’s style is WWE then they should have had a shave Chuck’s mohawk match

  2. Randy Rowles says:

This clown has become the William Huang of Internet Shooters. He’s been featured on a couple of different sites. Hope he enjoys his 15 minutes of YouTube fame.

  3. Tomer Chen says:

I’m sure he’d have as much success as Manny Reyes Jr. did against Hermes Franca did, in following that tradition… 🙂

  4. Grape Knee High says:

I must be old. What the heck is an “Internet Shooter”?

  5. klown says:

Guys, don’t encourage this guy. Take his stupid video down, please.

  6. Mateo says:

I have to agree with the above poster. Why give these goons any publicity? I actually was linked to that video from a Sherdog thread and couldn’t even watch it.

  7. Matthew Watt says:

This guy is a true hero. Almost brings a tear to my eye.

And that above statement I made is loaded with sarcasm.

  8. 1000 Cent says:

Makes me feel glad to be a MMA fan with an Internet connection (sarcasm). Although, truth be told, makes me feel better that the only people that call me “stupid” are people that a) never watched a complete MMA show since 2002, b) never seen a MMA show in their life, or c) too lazy to do research on the sport of MMA.

Yeah, IMO, it seems like everyone who has a computer and was in the top 20% of their graduating high school class thinks they’re a genus. And with the arrogance that comes along with that, I would rather be called borderline “retarded” :).

  9. Zack says:

Zach…this is a really funny side note tangent you’ve been going on since UFC 71. It’s definitely hilarious.

We’re at the point now where “TUF n00bz” have been watching the sport for 2 years. With so many upsets this year, we’ll see if real fights and questionable outcomes send them back to the greener pastures of watching Cena battle Khali or whatever that dudes name is.

  10. Jonathan says:

I watched his video at work and nearly got fired…;)

I still do not understand how he can say that Rampage doesn’t deserve to be champ. I will just sum it by saying he needs to get a life…or at least a better webcam.

  11. 1000 Cent says:

Well, some people just have an arm chair fighting spirit. Back when I was in high school, I thought I could kick Hulk Hogan’s ass just because I thought he was old. Now I look back on it, it wouldn’t have mattered how old he was, or how much real fighting skill he has, a 250 pound man who works out everyday would destroy a 190 pound tub of goo (which I was at the time), that the heaviest thing he ever lifted in his life was a keyboard, any day of the week.

So I guess everyone’s a tough guy, until they get punched in the face :).

  12. Dedwyre says:

You know, the whole “YouTube shooter” gimmick started with wrestling fans filming themselves saying how much they love TNA and hate WWE or vice versa. So now we have MMA fans doing the same thing to say that they don’t want UFC to end up like WWE, when they are in fact helping that trend move along with their antics.

Meanwhile, fighters like Quinton Jackson and Tito Ortiz are using their charisma and way with words to drive fans to such a reaction, which is giving the UFC more attention. Now we have fans who don’t like Jackson’s attitude and want to see him lose, so they’ll pay the UFC money to watch it.

They’re playing right into the UFC’s hands. That’s fine with me. I love Rampage, and I enjoy watching people make fools of themselves on occasion.

  13. Ron says:

    Zach,

I’m glad to see someone has my corner. Anyways, I’ll leave the good stuff to you and Adam for now on. I’ll probably stick to normal marketing discussion. However, I would like to let you and adam know that I greatly appreciate your open-mindedness regarding my blog. You’ve picked up another reader and a MMA fan. That’s more than I can say for some of the other MMA league sites which alienate those who are not hardcore fans in my opinion. Anyways, I’ll be checking in from time to time. I’ll send any new stuff to you and Adam so you guys can post first. Don’t worry..I won’ send you anything that isn’t concrete and legit. I think you guys know what I can do by now.
