Monday media mayhem: Chuck Liddell drug tested

By Zach Arnold | March 26, 2007

I am begging the fine readers of this site (and those who aren’t) to help us promote our coverage of the PRIDE & K-1 PR sessions to the blogs and other major sites. I’m amazed by the traction that the ‘big boy’ sites (and you know who you exactly are — not you, Jordan) are getting for reporting on items today that have been on good MMA blogs since Friday. It’s time for a pushback from some of the good MMA blogs here. Seriously. I know that I don’t have comments turned on (yet), but I do want to thank many of our readers who are very astute when it comes to analyzing big stories like the PRIDE/UFC situation. It’s hard to find that kind of level of conversation on the major sites right now.

Take a look at two images scans (from Kakutolog – here and here) of Nikkan Sports & Tokyo Sports newspapers yesterday.

Lance Pugmire in the LA Times reports that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has signed a new four-fight deal with UFC. The more interesting item from that article is that the NSAC made Chuck Liddell take “a random drug test” after appearing on Good Morning Texas.

A special thanks to everyone who listened to our interview with Ed Fishman. If you haven’t listened to it, go listen. It’s quite a remarkable conversation about PRIDE and the fight game in general.

  1. NBC Sports: Major UFC announcement coming Tuesday (“the acquisition of PRIDE” — it is times like these where we need more writers with legal backgrounds)
  2. The Rochester Post-Bulletin: Why do ultimate fighters enter the ring?
  3. Broadcast Newsroom (PR): UGO Networks partners with ProElite.com
  4. Associated Content: Japanese Media – UFC owners purchase PRIDE (Sports Hochi is Yomiuri Sports – and you read about this on Friday on this site)
  5. The Halifax Daily News: Road of the crowd says it all — MMA is a sport
  6. The UNLV Rebel Yell: Feedback to MMA vs. boxing article on their site
  7. PR Web: RawVegas.tv goes to full launch (including a show built around Marc Laimon)
  8. The Houston Chronicle: MMA notebook – Diego Sanchez gets tips from Oscar De La Hoya
  9. Doghouse Boxing: Travis Lutter interview
  10. Mike Sawyer: The rise and fall of Frank Mir
  11. The Fight Network: The Great Fight North – the latest Canadian MMA news & notes
  12. Tatame: From PRIDE to UFC – Fabricio Werdum (and I think they meant Ken Imai as his manager’s name)
