Thank god for Randy C. Finally a fighter stands up to the UFC. Anyone who actually pays attention to MMA as a whole knows that Fedor is the ultimate fighter in the sport today. Randy has resigned from the UFC and dumped the belt b/c Don King oh sorry I meant Dana White wont set, contract , make happen, support, or whatever, a fight between the two titans. I hate to say it but in my oppinion the UFC is on its way to the WWF if something doesnt change. Especially after the Matt Hammill rip off. He dominated Michael Bisping and got ripped solely due to geography. How stupid is that. Now we have a MAN in Randy C. who wants to fight the best. The best at this point being Fedor, no doubt about it. DANA WHITE WAKE UP. THIS GREAT THING YOU"VE BUILT IS TURNING INTO A JOKE.

I didn't read all the responses so this might be a direct rip-off of someone else, but as far as I know,Jeff Monson was signed on to fight Fedor leading into his match with Sylvia. Bodog,if Jeff were have to won, would have a virtual super bowl of heavy weights match-up. UFC VS Pride. Both heavy weights would represent the two biggest MMA organizations in the world.I've read that due to his loss to Sylvia,he was not considered as a canidate.Honestly,Monson's good, but there are better American Heavy weights(Barnett,Vera,Couture...even Sylvia)

- "Randy hasn’t been affiliated with Team Quest for quite some time now. "

I stand corrected. I'm well aware that Randy has moved on from Team Quest, he is still closely associated and friends with the guys. More appropriately, I should have worded that as "former Team Quest teammate and friend" rather than just "teammate".

- "Another problem here: Randy signed a two-year, three-fight deal right before his last fight with Chuck. He was still contractually obligated to the UFC for fights. No way he could’ve taken a fight with PRIDE or BoDog, and absolutely no chance Zuffa would have released one of their two biggest stars to go help a competitor. "

Randy did indeed sign that contract before Liddell #3, but he officially retired, making the contract void. This is not uncommon practice for fighters who intend to make a change in their career path. See Bob Sapp, entangled in a contractual nightmare with K-1, announced his retirement but still hasn't been able to work out his next move. Now I don't think Randy retired in order to renegotiate but it has worked out that way; while the old contract was void, the new four-fight, two-year deal was certainly for considerably more money than he's ever gotten.

- "Plus, we’ve already heard from other sources that it was Vera that Trigg was talking about, not Couture. I think all this Couture speculation is incorrect. "

Maybe it wasn't concise enough, but I never believed that Randy was seriously up for the Silva fight at all. I have heard that it was actually Vera who was contacted, we know he's been in negotiations with Pride, however I was did not mention the talks of a Silva fight because I couldn't find any quotes to verify it other than just rumors. Part of the intention of this was to bring attention to the fact that while there were many rumblings about Couture vs. Silva, it actually was in reality Couture vs. Fedor that was being discussed.

This matchup makes sense in a marketing perspective when you consider that the fight is being held in Russia. You can bill it as Russian superman vs American Olympic Medalist.

"After Bodog’s failed negotiaions with Randy Couture, it’s believably possible that Couture suggested his teammate Matt Lindland as an opponent for Fedor."
