UFC 60 – Aftermath

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

By Rob Sayers Perhaps it was the fact that I wasn’t expecting a great show, but I left the UFC PPV very satisfied and slightly surprised at the high level of entertainment we saw tonight. Coming into the event, only a few of the undercard bouts interested me, and the main event I feared would […]

By Zach Arnold Sankei Sports reports that Kazushi Sakuraba may be in attendance for the UFC 60 show on Saturday night (Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie). The article speculates that Sakuraba may end up participating in UFC (given the current business relationship between UFC & K-1 with BJ Penn & Royce Gracie).

UFC’s expansion plans

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

By Zach Arnold There is a great Whaledog editorial about Dana White’s comments to The Long Beach Press-Telegram about expanding the UFC into Europe, Canada, and other markets. One comment that struck me in particular was Mr. White stating that the NFL has had trouble exporting their product overseas, but that UFC could export their […]

Newsday interviews Royce

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

By Zach Arnold Joe Fernandez of New York’s Newsday did an interview with Royce Gracie for their Thursday newspaper edition. Two interesting notes from the interview: Joe Fernandez: How did you get signed for this match? Royce Gracie: It’s an agreement between UFC and K-1 because I’m under contract with K-1. K-1 called me up […]

“The biochemists”

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

By Zach Arnold In recent interviews that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has done with various media outlets (transcript here), Jackson has talked about having to deal with DSE’s “US office,” which is really just an office space in Los Angeles with Turi Altavilla (who used to work for King of the Cage, and is a hard […]

K-1 7/30 Sapporo event

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

As noted earlier today on the Puroresu Power page, K-1 announced a World GP show booking for July 30th in Sapporo at Makomanai Ice Arena. Musashi vs. Ernesto Hoost is likely to take place on the show. The more interesting story comes from Nikkan Sports, which notes that Bob Sapp may end up working that […]

Taking notice

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

By Zach Arnold The Houston Chronicle has a good article in their Monday edition of the newspaper, talking about MMA being hot property on US TV right now. It’s basically a UFC-oriented article with the usual pro-UFC spin about how they changed the rules (the same true/false mixed story), but one interesting twist is the […]

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

By Zach Arnold Sunday, May 21st was the date of the IFL’s TV debut on Fox Sports Net. If the purpose of the show was to look like a serious, legitimate contender to UFC — then they accomplished the task at hand. Site Poll: Rate the IFL’s TV debut on FSN MMA Snark review of […]
