Cage Rage 4/22 Wembley show press release

2006 Cage Rage events, all at Wembley Arena: 1st July and 9th Sept 2006

In a landmark move securing Cage Rage’s place as the undisputed King of MMA in the UK, promoters Andy Geer and Dave O’Donnell have secured a deal to hold all future Cage Rage events at Wembley Arena. After months of speculation Dave and Andy can confirm that Cage Rage 16 on 22nd April will be the last show held at Wembley Conference Centre.

“Over the last two events demand for tickets has exceeded the capacity at Wembley Conference Centre” says Cage Rage MD Andy Geer. “It’s great to have a sell out show but we feel the time is right to take Cage Rage and MMA to the next level.”

Although Cage Rage 16 will be the final showdown at Wembley Conference Centre they intend to go out with a bang! With UFC Vet Chris Lytle and PRIDE Vet Jutaro Nakao fighting for the Cage Rage world Welter Weight Title and Mark Epstein and Ryan Robinson going head to head for the British Light Heavy Weight Title there will be outstanding fighting from international and home grown talent. These will set the pace for the top billed fight between Anderson Silva and Matt Lindland for the Cage Rage world Middle Weight title.

In 2005 Cage Rage continued to grow from strength to strength, building on its reputation as the ONLY MMA event to take seriously in the UK. Recent events have seen unprecedented fight cards with the best international fighters such as PRIDE Superstar Ikuhisa Minowa, UFC favourite Vitor Belfort and British hero James Thompson. With over £1 million worth of coverage in last year’s media and TV deals with both ITV and Sky Sports Cage Rage is now recognised as the leading show in Europe and a main worldwide player with the UFC and PRIDE.

But as MMA becomes mainstream more MMA events have appeared claiming to be affiliated with Cage Rage or a decent rival to them.

“The competition doesn’t bother us” Quotes Andy Geer “Our fight cards speak for themselves and we have built our reputation over 15 events. People within the industry know the status a Cage Rage belt now holds and the calibre of fighters we put in our Cage.”

The move to Wembley Arena arguably places Cage Rage as one of the top three MMA events in the world and positions them as the only serious competition to Pride and the UFC.
