The Honolulu Advertiser’s article on the event (with results). Some topics of discussion to talk about (regarding their 170-pound Welterweight tournament):
- Carlos Condit gets a win over Renato “Charuto” Verissimo. Condit was a huge underdog on the gambling/sportsbook odd-making lines. People who bet on him made a lot of money.
- Yushin Okami gets a DQ win over Anderson Silva. Another fight where the underdog meant huge money for gamblers.
- Jake Shields (top Shooto fighter) wins over Dave Menne
- Frank Trigg defeated Ronald Jhun by unanimous decision. Trigg said on MMA Weekly that if he lost this fight, he would have retired from active competition.
In other news…
Jason “Mayhem” Miller will stand trial for burglary in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Press Tribune in Roseville, California does a follow-up article on James Irvin after his loss to Stephan Bonnar on the Ultimate Fight Night 3 event last Monday night.
Someone on the Fight Opinion staff wrote this news item (I don’t know who it is, I hope I find out!), so I figured I would post it along… MMAWeekly has reported that UFC and WFC have reached a settlement on the lawsuit filed by UFC, claiming that WFC’s use of the words “fighting” and “championship” was trademark infringement.
